To make cycling safe and comfortable, you need to choose the right equipment.
- A helmet. It will reduce the chance of injury if you fall. And it doesn’t matter how long your route is. Wear a helmet at all times. It shouldn’t squeeze your head and dangle loosely, rubbing and causing discomfort. The adjustment at the back of the head will adjust it exactly to your head volume.
- Tight pants or leggings. Riding in pants with wide pants is fraught with danger: they can catch on the chain. As a last resort, tuck them into socks or grab them with special clips.
- Bicycle shorts. If you decide to ride for long distances, they are indispensable. Soft “diapers” will make the trip more comfortable. Your butt will hurt much less after a long bike ride.
- Gloves. They will help to avoid blisters from the steering wheel, thanks to the gel pads on the palms. Fingerless gloves can be chosen for hot weather. In cold weather, classic gloves that cover the entire hand.
- Goggles. They protect your eyes from the sun, wind, dust, small stones.
- Shoes with deep tread. Will provide better grip with the pedals, your feet will not slip off them. Advanced cyclists use contact pedals with special cycling shoes. Their sole has a spike that is attached to the pedal and provides maximum fixation of the foot. But remember: the load on the legs in this case will be different, it will have to get used to it.
- Bright T-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket. Ideally – with reflective stripes.
- Backpack. It should fit comfortably to the back.
